Having a baby is a wonderful thing but pregnancy can often bring many unwanted changes to a women’s body; abdominal skin stretches, the muscles may weaken or separate, breasts increase in size during pregnancy but can “deflate” and droop after pregnancy and breast feeding. Weight fluctuations occur during and after pregnancy. You may or may not get back to that pre baby weight and look. The mommy make over can help.
Because every woman is unique, your mommy make over will be as individual as you. That is why at your consultation, we will discuss your particular wants and needs. Generally speaking, a mommy makeover may include breast augmentation, breast lift or reduction, breast lift with augmentation, tummy tuck, and or liposuction. Most mommy make over procedures can be done at the same time such as breast augmentation and tummy tuck.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Because a mommy makeover will include a combination of procedures, it will require good physical health. The best candidates should have no pre-existing medical conditions that could increase risks such as slower healing.
Healthy lifestyle habits must also be practiced, since drinking alcohol and smoking may result in complications like excessive bleeding and blood clots during and after surgery.
Another lifestyle habit that can impact the benefits of a mommy makeover is proper nutrition and exercise. Individuals who are not at or near their ideal body weight are at greater risk of infections and slower healing due to reduced blood flow. Make sure to have a maximum BMI of 30 before considering a mommy makeover.
It is important for prospective patients to have a positive outlook. The results of a mommy makeover will be different for everyone, and it is essential to set realistic expectations. Before undergoing a mommy makeover, you should be finished with childbearing.
Your Mommy Makeover Consultation
A mommy makeover consultation will involve a thorough discussion of your aesthetic goals. Dr. Lopes will examine your body’s current appearance and recommend the procedures that will match your body and your goals. She will discuss do’s and don’ts for before, during, and after the procedure to prepare you emotionally and physically.
Be prepared to provide your complete medical history, including current prescriptions and any allergies, to help Dr. Lopes assess whether you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover.
You will also undergo lab tests to determine your clotting time, bleeding time, complete blood count with platelet, and other tests; this will ensure that the procedure is safe for you.
Before Your Surgery
Before any breast surgery, it is important that you have discontinued breast feeding. It is also ideal to be at a stable weight.
Recovery from a mommy make over will depend on what your mommy make over entails. There are some basic instructions you will follow to help with your recovery. These include arranging for help from a family member or friend after the procedure for at least 24 hours. It is important to get up and move around but avoid any heavy lifting or pulling. Most strenuous exercise will need to wait for four weeks but walking is fine and is encouraged.
Most women can return to work, school, etc after two weeks of recovery but this will depend on you and the type of job or activity you may want to resume. Rest assured that we will assist you in all aspects of your post-operative recovery.
